Fickle winds overnight. We had a few occasions of 10+ knots but mostly very light winds and for awhile, on my watch from 5-7am, almost nothing, so I furled the gennaker and re-set it around 7:30am. There was a full moon last night which set just before sunup. High cirrus clouds made the night quite bright.
We will do a fuel and water calculation today. As we approach the Cape Verde islands, it's always possible to stop there for repairs, provisions, etc., although it would add on a few extra days to the trip overall.
We had an issue this morning with the chafe protection on the first reef. It had been installed improperly. We didn't have a chafe problem, but it caused the first reef line to jam preventing us from putting up the full mainsail.
I reworked it into its proper position and stitched it in place. I expect it will be fine from here on out.
We could see Cornell rally participant Tantrum 5 mikes to our starboard in the early morning. No sign of anyone else. We get a position report of all the boats each noon so we will get a feel then for how we are doing overall.
